Today's prompt was to write about a family anecdote that has stuck with you over the years.
Drift My sister saved me drowning in my grandfather’s quiet indoor pool in a soft haze of plastic. My pink flamingo inner tube slowly deflating, she paddled out to lasso me back to the edge. The adults too deep in conversation to notice. I had been sinking, we insisted, and no one even cared. Ages later, we are still the sole bearers of the story. In dark dreams, I drift in mermaid goggles while I try desperately to wake myself up.
